Frick Park Culinary Institute
In collaboration with Henry Youngren
Fall 2022 - Second Year
Centering food sourcing, responsible local farming, and community engagement, this project explores the idea that when architecture is physically embedded into the landscape and emphasizes food gathering and agriculture, one can develop a deeper relationship with food.
Through the implementation of large open spaces, high levels of permeability, and the lack of spatial distinctions for inhabitants, everyone who moves through the space is encouraged to experience it in a similar way, whether they may be students, guests, or faculty.
The form, largely inspired by our initial field drawing, is comprised of a singular twisted band, abstracted into the three-dimensional, and pulled towards eight key points of foot traffic, which become the eight primary entrances. This abundance of entrances encourages visitors to Frick park to stop and enjoy the many features of the culinary institute, from the cafe to the many community gardens, to the lending libraries located near the community room.
